Fedir Fesai, CEO at Yus Augmentive localization company 

A Ukrainian linguist with 10-year experience was one of the pioneers in the localization business in Ukraine. Previously chief editor and terminologist of translation projects for Microsoft Windows Vista and Office 2007 he was actively engaged in the development of Ukrainian MS StyleGuide. Currently, Fedir manages his own translation agency showing impressive 100% in 2 years growth dynamics.

Tatiana Vinogradova, SDL Trados Project Coordinator at T-Service, demonstrates how to translate a PDF document; create a translation memory with a new Alignment view available for editing alignment results; analyse and pre-translate files; sort segments using the display filters and run document verification. She will also show how to create a MultiTerm termbase using Glossary Converter (an OpenExchange Application).

Many people ask themselves a question: is it possible to learn simultaneous interpreting? What if it is a unique skill available only to a few chosen ones? Actually, to master simultaneous interpreting you won't even have to install a soundproof booth in your home. You'll just need a PC with Internet access, a pair of headphones amd some patience, and the speaker is going to share the exercises for your practice.

About speaker: 

Anna is a freelance interpreter and translator. She got a Master's degree from Kyiv National Taras Shevchenko University in Translation and Interpreting from English and French Languages, and then a Master's degree from the Institute of Translators, Interpreters and International Relations (Strasbourg, France) in Conference Interpreting. Anna has worked as simultaneous interpreter since 2007. She participated in various events on different levels, including work in the European Parliament, the Council of Europe, Ukrainian state institutions, international conferences and seminars as well as film festivals. With some university teaching experience in stock, she is convinced that teaching and mastering simultaneous interpreting is perfectly possible.

About speaker: 

Serge Gladkoff graduated from a Russian ivy league nuclear science college and for more than twenty-four years has been engaged in the localization industry, first as a deputy director for a software distribution company Dialogue-MEPhI, then as a localization manager of Moscow office of Borland International and for twenty years ongoing, as the President and co-owner of the Logrus International Corporation.

Serge has been a speaker and presenter on many events, and served GALA elected Board member for 2009-2010 and 2011-2012, and has been recently re-elected for the GALA Board for the 2014-215 term. Serge is the founder of the largest professional community in the world in localization industry, the Localization Professional group on LinkedIn, with more than 22,000 members as of March, 2014.

Rebecca Petras
Program Director at Translators Without Borders

Rebecca has 20 years of corporate and brand strategic communications experience with an emphasis on the technology, language and legal industries. Prior to becoming program director for Translators without Borders in 2012, she specialized in creating messaging, positioning and strategic marketing programs serving clients in the US, Europe and Africa. In 2000, she founded Petras Associates which served a wide range of clients, including the Globalization and Localization Association, Rubric, McElroy Translation, Axway, Radiant Logic, Venga, Metz Law and Outback Power. Prior to Petras Associates, she was a vice president at Ketchum, an award-winning international public relations firm.

Rebecca now serves as Translators without Borders’ first program director and first full-time employee. Previously she was a board member for Translators without Borders for two years and served on the executive committee as the head of the marketing committee.

Webinar with Irina Alekseeva

Irina Alekseeva has been working in the translation industry since 1975. Her translation fields are: law, medicine, patents, economics, literary texts (German language). In 1980 through 2008 she was employed as a lecturer on theory and practice of translation at Saint Petersburg State University. In 2008 Irina founded Saint-Petersburg Higher School of Translation, which trains translators for the UN and other international organizations. Irina published 12 books on translation.
