The market of the ex-USSR republics is extremely unattractive for those experienced freelance translators who live there. Despite the fact that most of us started with local companies, zenith of glory for all of us is cooperation with foreign companies only. This is not a big surprise, because rates are 7-10 (or even more) times higher. But we have a problem here. The thing is that you can easily contact locals in person, which is not the case when ’foreigners’ are concerned. How one can market her business with only a mouse and a keyboard? We will try to answer this question and figure out how to always get your payment from your clients, i. e. those whom you will (most probably) never be able to see in person.
